Hello, I've just created a tutorial on how to do particle tracking with Blender. Hope it will be useful for someone else.

I've decided to compile all the information I gave in a workshop last year in order to create a manual for introduction to 3D modeling in Blender. It is written in Portuguese and you can have it here: goo.gl/1u0Tqi

BlenderPT Conference 2016

It's been a while since I don't post here.
Last weeks I've been preparing two presentations for the Portuguese Blender-PT Conference 2016.
The first one was related to some non traditional ways I've been using Blender at work, you can find it here.
The second was about Motion Tracking in Blender, which you can also find here.

Apart from that, I've been slowly continuing my short movie, which you can follow in this_ facebook webpage: https://www.facebook.com/thisshortismine/

Hope to post more frequently...

Blender and Android

18/11/2015

I've joined two of my hobbies and made a preliminary test to see if it was possible to use the Android mobile sensors to control Blender objects. I've already tested the first option that would be to record the sensor values and then import it to Blender through a python script.
Today I've made another test in which the object is updated in real time in Blender while moving the mobile phone. Communication is made via wi-fi using sockets. Check it out.
My objective is to try to use the mobile sensors to create more realistic animations, without having to use expensive motion tracking equipment. For that, in most cases it will be necessary not only the mobile position, but also its velocity. The problem I'll probably face is that velocity is not directly obtained by a sensor, it must be computed from the accelerations and the noise might introduce some errors along time, but I'll see if low pass filters might help to do the job.
If it is feasible, one can then fix the mobile to a part of the body or to an object that we want to animate in order to have more realistic movements.

Finished project

Finished about one month ago a new project with Blender. Another promotional video for Fluidinova, S.A.
Meanwhile, not a lot of time for other things. There is also my short movie in Blender that's been in stand-by for a while and that I am always delaying, but one day I'll have the courage to finish it.
Concerning Android apps, I hope to finish my Android game in the next months and I have some other pending projects that will still have to wait for a while.
Between all these pending things, I'm still thinking in adding a new section to the website related to CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Blender, Android and CFD, three different areas I love but that might all be related somehow.

Hobbies

Well, I've been busy with my hobbies as usual. For the last weeks, mainly with an android game I've been developing and which is already fully playable, but still misses a facelift and a promotional video to put it on Google Play, so it will be some more weeks or a few months "in the oven".
Now the focus is in a new Blender project, a short technical video for a website.
Meanwhile, the Micro 3D printer I've supported last year on Kickstarter has finally arrived almost two weeks ago, but I only had time to make a few tests most of them without success, but the first successfully printed part was this one, which will be  used to support the filament.
I'll probably add a 3D printing section to the website to show what I'll be printing and the problems and tips I've found.

In the last months, I've been busy with the Jewelry workshop that I gave and that finished in mid February. After that, apart from developing android apps, which are still in prototype phase, I've been making this poster which I presented in the AERC Conference in Nantes.
Everything made in Blender, using the logo images as textures. All the graphics are realy 3D and the camera was placed at the average head position relatively to the poster, in order to have the right perspectives for the elements along the poster.
With Blender as you are working with 3D and you have all the freedom, you can make several variables graphics, for example an x-y series can have its color and/or width vary along x according to two other variables (which was not the case in the plots of the poster).
Depending on the content of your poster, with Blender you can even print it with stereoscopic effects and give some 3D glasses to your visitors in order to have a more realistic 3 dimensional experience.

Data visualization with Python

I've just finished reading the e-book Learning Python Data Visualization.  Is an e-book that teaches you how to create fancy graphics for data visualization using Python. It does not teach you how to program in Python, but the short Python introduction and the step-by-step examples will allow even the non- Python programmer to start creating their own graphics. For the more advanced programmers, they can easily follow the examples and available libraries to extend them into scripts to automate their web charts creation or mass data analysis processing.

Still working on several things in parallel and not so much to show but since last post I've made several images to support my hometown club Rio Ave, by placing digital content on photos, as shown in these examples:
I'm also preparing a workshop for 3D modelling with Blender, directed to jewelry production, for which these images serve as example. The objective is to learn how to model in Blender so that you can then send the models for 3D printing, or other production techniques and have your own personal and unique jewel, for example by sending to Shapeways.com .

It's been a while since I don't post anything here. It does not mean I'm doing nothing.
With Blender I'm almost stopped, just making some tests with motion tracking to try to make a very short "add" about my hometown club. Meanwhile, trying to advance with a new Blender Conference in Portugal for 2015.
Concerning Android I'm also making some projects but none of them is short termed so I don't know when I'll be posting some news. I'm exploring libgdx libraries to make some games and exploring interface layouts.
So nothing to be finished in short term but I'll try to post some updates.
